News from Kirn Parish Church on 24 June 2012

As we approach the end of the school session and the start of the summer holidays, sometimes the holiday can feel too long , so Sarah reminded the children no one needs to ‘be bored’ this summer as there is still an active group every Sunday in Kirn.

Also a holiday club in Hanover Street Hall July 2nd to 6th  6pm till 8pm and August 6th to 10th Innellan Church 10am till 12 noon.   A new Teenagers group will start meeting on Sunday 24th phone Glenda on 700848 for more information.

Today was prize giving at Kirn, every child is precious with different talents and different goals, so each child received a book, hand picked by their teachers, from Sarah and Janet McKellar the co-ordinator of the Sunday school.

The number to find in our research of the Bible was 40 the children found the 40 days and nights Jesus was in the dessert, the 40 days and nights Noah was ‘afloat’, and the choir relied on Ray once again! With the 40 days Moses was onMount Sinai.  Next week it is 50

We were delighted to hear the sponsored swim went well and everyone made it home safely as it was quite a turbulent river.   Robert ‘our’ swimmer raised £745.00 to date and we thank him for that, also thank you Allana’s and Electricom for displaying his sponsor sheets. (see more details of the swim here

Appropriately the reading by Moira, 1 Timothy 4 v7-12 contained the words ”Physical exercise has some value, but spiritual exercise is valuable in every way as it promises life both for the present and the future”.    Sarah’s prayer was for the guidance to use these gifts for the benefit of our family, our neighbours, our world and importantly the future of the church.

Sunday School

We have an enthusiastic Sunday School who meet every week during morning service. At present there are about 15 children aged 3-12 who enjoy singing, stories, making things and participating in services. There is a rota of 6 adults who lead the Sunday School activities in discussion with the minister and deacon. We have a prizegiving service for our children in June every year and we always organise a barbeque or picnic at around the same time. In recent years this has been a joint celebration with the St. John’s Sunday School. The children also lead a nativity service in December each year and this is greatly enjoyed by the whole congregation.
